Comparison

“I have never had to unscrew another woman’s light bulb to shine. ”

We live in a culture that is totally obsessed with comparison. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others. Don't believe me?  How many of you have an active Pinterest account?  I love Pinterest.  I have so many things saved I want to do.  But we see things like home decor and clothing and food and we try to recreate it.  The results are most of the time not exactly what we expected.  There are even websites devoted to Pinterest fails. I know Pinterest seems fairly harmless; however, we can allow the enemy to lie to us about how we aren't good enough.  There are beautifully decorated mudrooms, butterfly shaped sandwiches with broccoli for school lunches, chore charts on “command center” kitchen walls, and perfectly decorated cakes. It is all a bit overwhelming. When we begin to compare our kid’s school lunches of half an eaten apple, a few loose broken pretzels and taco bell sauce packets to the humus and celery with fresh grapes on a skewer to make a caterpillar, jealousy enters into our spirit.

We see beautiful, skinny people and we think about how much we wish we could look like that.  We see all the posts about things people do outside and indoor games with their kids and we begin to think we aren't good enough parents.  Can I be real with you?  I am one of the worship leaders at my church. We welcomed a new singer to the team and she is amazing.  I immediately allowed the devil to lie to me. I began to think that I wasn't good enough and they didn't need me anymore.  God rebuked me.  See Holy Spirit doesn't just speak to me and God doesn't just give me a talent.  We need to celebrate each others powerful anointing and talents.  Delight in each other. I have never had to unscrew another woman's light bulb to shine.  Delight in who God made us.

The Bible tells us that we are wonderfully and fearfully made.  It also tells us that we are His masterpieces and He knows us by name.  We are who God made us and there is no reason for us to compare ourselves to others in any aspect of our lives.  In fact it is a sin. Exodus 20:17 tells us NOT TO covet.

So take sometime today and ask God two questions:  What lies am I believing about myself? and What is the picture of truth? See Gal 1:10, Gal. 6:4, 2 Cor 10:12, Phil 2:3, 2 Cor 13:5

Dr. Seuss said it perfectly, “ Today you are you, that’s truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you. ”
